Job Title:Recreation Coordinator (10-month position)

Description of Duties:Coordinates and oversees the school’s afterschool program; Develops and plans a meaningful recreation program by contributing to the development and maintenance of afterschool program policies; writing procedures; goals and objectives for the program based on the students’ needs; interests and abilities; documents and maintains records that evaluate and inform future planning based on goals and performance objectives and evaluations from stakeholders; recruits and trains program staff (e.g., staff tutors, coaches, etc.); documenting time and duties performed; prepares schedules and assignments for afterschool program staff/coaches and students; communicates all schedules to stakeholders; coordinates facilities and programs with school staff; conducts sports and recreational activities that are structured and educational in nature with the goals of teaching decision-making; academic support; improving physical fitness; offering leisure and enrichment options; prepares required budget requests and program status reports to administration for planning; ensures all safety rules; regulations and procedures are followed; performs public relation duties by communicating event calendar and announcements to stakeholders via website, social media and email; maintains confidentiality when dealing with students and families and records; demonstrates knowledge of FERPA; this position also serves as the school’s designated Athletic Director which responsibilities include but are not limited to: scheduling games/referees/buses; paying referees; serving as the point of contact for families regarding schedules, pick-ups, and other athletics-related issues; communicating with Athletic Directors from other schools regularly (cancellations; updates; rosters; student eligibility); following safety protocols; working with school leadership team and coaches to establish/enforce student code of conduct for players (including checking on grades); ordering uniforms and equipment; attending athletic directors meetings (approximately three per school year); and coordinating the end-of-year athletics banquet. *Note: This position involves a second shift schedule working in late afternoons and evenings.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Must possess or be eligible to obtain Georgia Teacher Certification in the area of Deaf/Hard of Hearing students
• Experience managing an after-school program or similar program
• Applicants must exhibit the ability to communicate in American Sign Language during the interview with the expectation of obtaining an American Sign Language Proficiency Instrument (ASLPI) rating of 3 or above within three years from date of hire
• Possess a valid GA driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications:Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess one or more of the following:
• Possesses or is eligible to obtain Georgia Teacher Certification in the grade or content area of the prospective position
• Three years of experience teaching deaf/hard of hearing students
• Knowledge of various school level athletic/sporting rules and regulation
• ASL proficiency at 3+ or above as measured by the American Sign Language Proficiency Interview (ASLPI)
Salary/Benefits: Paid on the Georgia Teacher Salary Schedule based on teaching certification and creditable years of experience. This is a 10-month position paid on a 12-month basis. Benefit options include life, disability, dental and health insurance; annual/sick leave; and Teachers' Retirement or Employees' Retirement.
