Description of Duties:
Under the general supervision of the Finance and Budget Program Manager in the School Nutrition Division of the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE), this position processes, balances and monitors functions for various Federal School Nutrition Programs (SNP).  Duties include, but are not limited to, preparing and reconciling cash analysis reports, monthly exceptions, and month-end reports in compliance with USDA and GaDOE policies and procedures; performing reviews and approving of invoice Fresh Fruit and Vegetable (FFVP) claims; making mathematical computations; maintaining  basic business and governmental accounting terminology, principles, and procedures sufficient to record, post and code information; posting and balancing vendor distribution report and financial transaction report; resolving minor bookkeeping and accounting errors; maintaining current files on all vendors; maintaining  accurate accounting records; resolving vendor discrepancies;  maintaining basic billing and bookkeeping practices; reviewing, posting, and balancing procedures; effectively communicating with vendors verbally and in writing; preparing reports and correspondence necessary to document activities related to job activities; preparing  reports for management, peers and others in response to requests for information; copying, retrieving, and distributing documents and information as required; performing  work in a timely manner utilizing appropriate theory and judgment and ensuring conformity  with specified principles, measurement focus, policies and regulations; analyzing complex reconciliation documents and other information to arrive at logical and accurate conclusions; determining appropriate corrective action to take when faced with discrepancies; adequately analyzing the effects of transactions on reports; participating in professional continuing educational programs when available; attending regular meetings of applicable  professional organizations;  reading and evaluating professional literature on a continual basis; incorporating knowledge of pertinent new trends and developments into section procedures and making recommendations  for any related organizational changes; effectively interacting with Fresh Fruit and Vegetable representatives, GaDOE and state government staff, as well as external clients; and completing other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in accounting from an accredited college or university OR completion of Bachelor’s Degree in a business curriculum which included the completion of introductory and intermediate accounting sequence.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess one
or more of the following:
• Experience in governmental accounting
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting
• Participation in the State Financial Management Certificate Program
• Experience utilizing PeopleSoft Accounting modules
• Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Access)
Pay grade 12 – Annual salary range $26,672.14 (minimum) to $46,816.96 (maximum).   Hiring salary is based on current employment, relevant education/training, previous work experience, salary history, and available funding.  Benefit options include life, disability, dental and health insurance, annual/sick leave, and Employees’ Retirement or Teachers’ Retirement.
